Rothley Station : 2 Haunted Venues

I apologise for the lack of posts this past month.
I won't go into the details but the outcome is no inspiration or motivation. But I'm determined to overcome that!

This past weekend, we went on another investigation...

Experience
As we were the last ones to do an investigation, maybe ever... (we've hopefully convinced them to let us come again), we were determined to try and find something or someone! This was the first time that Marc and the team investigated the venue, so there was no idea what was to be expected.
Everyone was quite relaxed, especially Marc! Ended up starting later than usual. Although it wasn't down to him being his chatty self.
As soon as we stepped out of the staff room, the K2's went crazy. And that started us off. We split up down the platform to try and see what else we could get.
The Ouija boards again didn't get any action, but that wasn't going to stop us!
Myself and another "investigator" attempted the Scrying Mirror... can tell you, I freaked myself out with my own eyes hahaha!
In the same room as I attempted this, Phil was experiencing being pushed on his stool and a stabbing feeling at the bottom of his spine. (Picture above was before we started anything.)

As you can see in another picture, we tried to communicate using a K2 dolly. And this was fantastic!
Here's a link to a short clip of that.
We also had a whoa moment where the dolly was pushed back quite forcefully.
But in the end, it turned out that Annie, the young girl, felt really safe with the wife of a volunteer and considered her as her substitute mum.

We also went down the track a bit.. was a bit freaky! Kept feeling like I was in a zombie movie and was going to get attacked from zombies jumping out of the trains surrounding us... Can tell I've watched too many movies!
Turns out the train station appeared in an episode of Top Gear too.

Another investigation next weekend at the Hinckley Museum.

Bedroom Makeover Wishlist

The other evening I was having a relaxing evening in bed with a cup of tea and a book, when I looked up and realised my chest of drawers were knackered.
That then caused me to look round the room, and I compiled a list of stuff to get.

Phil & I have been living together for four months now and it still looks like we literally have just combined our stuff together and left it like that.

Slowly these past couple of months, I've been starting to get stuff to make the place ours. It's mainly started with the kitchen, but I think it's time to focus on one room at a time.

And our bedroom is the winner.

Chest of drawers
Wall art
Duvet
Cushions
Photo frames
Throw
Rug
Makeup organiser
For this, I was originally thinking of having a quirky display by using a cake stand, but I can't stop changing my mind between that and just some normal storage boxes...

The prices for the majority of these items are WAAAYYY out of my price range but hey, a girl can dream right? I will indeed be keeping my eyes open and be checking out local charity shops that focus on furniture.
There's a couple of great places I like to go to in Nuneaton for stuff like this.
The British Heart Foundation F&E (although I am slightly biased as I volunteered there for a few months) gets some terrific pieces in, and I recently discovered a place called Second Chances. Had a couple of looks round there and it is SO cheap!!!
I could have got a dining table and chairs for about £15 if it had been the right style we want. Sadly it wasn't though *sad face*... and this place has also featured on an episode of SuperScrimpers!

Edit: just a little spelling mistake! All corrected now :)

Hypothyroidism

This is something I happened to be born with even though I was diagnosed at the age of 8. You'd think that in the 17 years since then, I'd have control of it. Sadly I don't. It's nothing major but it can affect the way you are.
What is hypothyroidism?
It's a condition where the thyroid gland doesn't produce enough thyroxine. Thyroxine is a hormone that helps to keep the body's functions (the metabolism) working at the correct pace. Many cells & tissues in the body need thyroxine to keep them going correctly.
What are the symptoms?
Basically, many body functions slow down.
The most common symptoms include:
Tiredness
Weight gain
Constipation
Aches
Feeling cold
Dry skin
Lifeless hair
Fluid retention
Mental slowing
Depression

The less common symptoms include:
Irregular/heavy menstrual periods
Loss of sex drive
A hoarse voice
Infertility
Carpal tunnel syndrome
Memory loss & confusion in the elderly

Symptoms usually develop slowly, & gradually become worse over months or years as the level of thyroxine in the body gradually falls.
What are the possible complications?
It's more likely to develop complications if left untreated. There's an increased risk of developing heart diseases. For those that get pregnant, there's an increased risk of pregnancy complications such as:
pre-eclampsia
anaemia
premature labour
low birth weight
stillbirth
serious bleeding

There's also a hypothyroid coma (also known as a myxoedema coma), but that's very rare!
How is hypothyroidism diagnosed?
With a simple blood test.
How is hypothyroidism treated?
You'll need to take levothyroxine tablets each day. I've read and been told it's ideal to take the tablet on an empty stomach and before breakfast. But you do have to be careful with foods that are rich in calcium and iron. These may interfere with the absorption of the levothyroxine from the gut.
Are there any side-effects or problems from treatment?
Usually not. If you have angina, there may be stronger pains but talk to your doctor more.
If you take too much, it can lead to symptoms & problems of an over-active thyroid. This can increase the risk of developing osteoporosis.
Other medicines may interfere, such as:

iron tablets
carbamazepine
phenytoin
rifampicin

Your doctor will advise you, and you'd need blood tests to make sure you're taking the correct dosage.
If you have hypothyroidism, you are entitled to free prescriptions.

As of today, I've been taking my tablets for 32 days. It doesn't make up for 2 and a half years of forgetful phases to take my tablets, but it's a start and I have the support of Phil and my besties. So far, I'm actually feeling worse than I used to. But that's what the doctors are for... to help me get on the right dosage. No doubt I'm going to need to take a higher one.

I will be writing about my journey to become 'me' again *smiles*.

I'd love to thank you, lovely readers, for reading this little blog.

Thoughtful Thursday #6

I know too many people who claim they can't be happy and they tell me so many excuses!
I've always said this to them and they go quiet on me...
But why let OTHERS be in charge of YOUR happiness?! They're not you, don't have your thoughts, your feelings, your personality. Only you know what will make you happy. Take charge!

Haul

Payday is dangerous! Always start off with a plan to spend as little as possible and just get the little top up bits and bobs...
We ventured into Asda to buy said bits and bobs... and the sale rail was right by the entrance! Uh oh.
I saw this dress & I just knew it was perfect for the wedding of Phil's brother and his fiancee... which is just before Christmas.
Yes, that's right. I've bought a dress for an event that's in 7 months time.
As you can see in the picture, it originally cost £20 and was reduced to £7.50. Lovely! Just over 57% off!
Obviously as the time gets closer, I'll do a post on the complete outfit I'll wear.

I also bought this lovely top from a charity shop for £3. Must say, the charity shops around here are just like every normal clothing store when it comes to prices. I'm sure the prices just get higher and higher! This is definitely worth £3!
Anyhoo! This was a treat to myself for a week of taking my Thyroxine tablets. For me, that was a big deal. The longest time I've taken them is 3/4 days before I ended up forgetting again (all will be explained in another post...).

Thanks to this lovely weather we've been having lately, I've been wanting to go round a carboot and find some bargains! We found a local one the very next day and Phil & I couldn't help but have a wander round.

These are what I found...

Price ranges from 50p to £1. To be honest, I've completely forgot which ones which. I do know the last bag pictured cost me 50p.

We got some other bits and bobs. We bought some board games for when the nephews come round, although to be honest I can see us spending hours playing Battleship and Hungry Hippos ourselves... haha!
I also bought a little writing set, the kind that you would usually get when you were younger.

I'm off to write a letter to my Nana... bye for now!

Edit: just had to correct some spelling :)
