Charity Shop Finds

Whenever I go see my friend, who lives in Atherstone, I always get the urge to go to a certain charity shop.
They always have a few tubs outside the front. One full of free books, and a couple for items for 10p!
I can't help but have a root through.

I decided recently to try and find little nice things for our home.
When I found these, I just had to get them!

For 10p each, do you blame me??
Not sure if you can see in the second picture, but this little plate has a silver trim around the edging.

For a long time now I've wanted a teapot.
But I don't see the point of forking out £8+ for a teapot when you can find plenty in charity shops.
I saw one a couple of weeks ago for £2 but sadly I didn't have any money on me at the time.

Good job! Because on the same day of buying the lovely plates, I found this teapot for 75p!

Bargain!

Thoughtful Thursday #9

Whether it's overcoming a fear, losing weight, wanting a new career...
And also planning a wedding! Feel like everything needs to be sorted now... but it doesn't.
I always get so impatient, rush everything, and get so overwhelmed I block myself. Need to slow down.

Inspiration: Julie & Julia

Has anyone seen this movie?
About a woman who gets inspired to cook all the recipes from a book by her favourite cook.
I had the DVD for a long time but only got round to watching it recently.
Anyone who knows me, knows how much I like baking.
Anyway, this film has inspired me to do the same but I've decided to go with cakes etc.
With this in mind, I signed up with the local library and rummaged through the cookery section.
I came across this...
And I just knew this was it. A couple of years ago, I was given some recipe cards from this book. I've never gotten round to making them however.

As money isn't overflowing, I'm not going to put a time limit on this, unlike in the movie.
I've got my guinea pigs ready & waiting. Not real guinea pigs, people! They're in the form of two strapping guys who enjoy their food & I can trust their verdicts.

2 Haunted Venues: Hinckley Museum

We've been to this several times already so we always have some expectations.
This time however, wasn't as active as it has been before.
Thanks to the lovely hot weather, we started in the garden for the preliminary chat Marc does with each venue.
We were split into two groups as the rooms are quite small & it would help us time-wise.
To be honest, I can't remember much of the night. I blame hitting my head quite badly when down in the cellar. My own fault.
I do know that the other group got activity when it was their turn in the cellar. They also found out a name that we've been trying to find out for awhile.
A chat with Marc has also helped me decide that when I'm right again, I'm going to find out more about opening myself up more to mediumship.
No harm in trying, right?

Honestly...

I'm not doing so good. I know blogs are usually full of good things and showing the more positive side, but right now I can't.
Things aren't so great. I'm struggling.
Lack of money, lack of a job, my clothes are deteriorating, they seem to be going up in sizes too even though I've lost 19lbs so far. Got a lack of communication with friends & family. There's also the wedding next year.
Just feeling like my walls are crumbling and I don't feel too strong. In fact, I'm feeling like a failure with everything.
I'm so grateful for Phil and one of my besties, Dave. They've been so great!

If either of you read this, thank you for being you. I love you both.

Thoughtful Thursday #8

At the moment I'm feeling very motivated.
I joined a group on Facebook called The Curvy Butterfly. Just a whim one evening.
Took me a couple of days until I decided to start a 30 day exercise challenge and the next morning, I did just that.
I'm now on Day 7 and it feels good! Taking it a step at a time.
I'm not going all health and exercise crazy, but I'm trying to just get used to having some form of exercise in my day.
If I lose weight before the wedding, that'll be a bonus but it's not my focus.
Let's face it - I like my food. I don't want to put a mountains worth of pressure on myself, so that I feel like I'm suffocating or that I'm a failure for enjoying a chocolate bar or something.

Scotch Pancakes

We had one of the nephews staying over last weekend for a night.
I couldn't help but try and think of something fun for us to do. And pancakes came to mind for breakfast. Little Man got so excited!
In the end, he just ate the yoghurt he wanted with the pancakes and kept playing bowling on the Wii. But it was fun making them!

What the recipe calls for:
75g plain flour
A pinch of salt
1 teaspoon of baking powder
1 egg
3 tablespoons low fat plain yoghurt
1 tablespoon skimmed milk (I only like semi-skimmed so I used that instead)

Instructions:
Sift the flour, salt & baking powder into a mixing bowl. Add the egg, yoghurt and milk, and beat together to make a smooth paste.
Heat a non-stick frying pan until hot and add half a teaspoon of vegetable oil. Add tablespoonfuls of the batter and cook over a medium low heat. Turn them over when bubbles start to appear on the surface. Each pancake should take about 2 minutes to cook.

I may try these with a bit of flavouring next time. Maybe swap the plain yoghurt for vanilla, or strawberry... There's so many options! Sprinkles, chocolate drops, dried fruit...
Me thinks an experiment may be happening soon!
